The Sigley Cup (Senior A two-day) has been a close fought thing in the past few weeks. Due to the closeness of the competition, and issues regarding the communication and clarification of the points system used, attached is an analysis of the points, round by round, for the teams close to the top two placings.

The points system used for this, as agreed at this week’s Hamilton Cricket Association board meeting, is as follows.

• Outright win (6)
• Tie when both teams have completed two innings (3)
• Win on the first innings (points to be retained no matter final result) (4)
• Tie on first innings (points to be retained no matter final result) (2)
• Drawn match when first innings result cannot be achieved or the match is abandoned without a ball being bowled. (3)

Bonus points:
Applies to the first innings only.
.10 per 10 runs to 250 runs only i.e. maximum bonus points will be: 2.5 points
.25 per wicket i.e. maximum bonus points will be: 2.5 points

DAY ONE ABANDONED: CHANGE OF FORMAT
If play is not possible on Day 1 then the match will proceed as a single
innings game (not limited overs) on Day 2. The points for a first innings lead, tie,
or draw will apply including bonus points.
The same playing conditions apply as for the first day of a two day game except each team only has one innings available. If a 1st innings win is not achieved then the match is drawn. If the match is drawn each team will receive 2 points plus bonus points. If a team gets a win then they receive 4 points plus bonus points. The losing team gets bonus points.

Using this system, the points end up as follows:

1 | Star University CC, 75.05
2 | Hamilton Old Boys CC Red, 58.85
3 | Marist-Suburbs CC, 58.55
4 | Melville CC, 58.05
5 | Hamilton Boys’ High School, 53.85
6 | Fraser Tech CC, 46.15
7 | Hamilton Old Boys CC, 38.60
8 | Eastlink CC, 25.70

However, the final placings do not change (although the exact points do) if using the other points system that was distributed, namely

• Outright win when the first innings was a tie 6
• Outright win when the winning team was behind on the first innings 4
• Tie when both teams have completed two innings 4
• Win on the first innings (points to be retained if match lost outright) 4
• Tie on first innings (points to be retained if match lost outright) 2
• Drawn match when a first innings result cannot be achieved or the
match is abandoned without a ball being bowled. 3

Bonus points:
Applies to the first innings of two day games only.
.10 per 10 runs to 250 runs only i.e. maximum bonus points will be: 2.5 points
.25 per wicket i.e. maximum bonus points will be: 2.5 points

DAY ONE ABANDONED: CHANGE OF FORMAT
