Combining HCA, WVCA and CMCA Premier teams, an all Hamilton final awaits as the Spark New Zealand Premier competition draws to a close. Hamilton Old Boys Senior (HOB) will take on Star University (Star) in what is set to be a magnificent day of cricket at Galloway Park, match start 10:30am.
HOB will look to avenge a convincing defeat in the 2018/19 Spark final and come into the 2019/20 final in a rich vein of form claiming seven wins, and finished as undefeated front runners in Pool 1. Mike Lanting and James Gilford will be a key combination with the ball for HOB, if this partnership clicks it will cause significant problems for any batting line up.
Kairav Bhatt is another player to watch with a batting style that compliments any attack. Another key performer will be Jake Harvey, a player that will be will be hungry to perform with bat in hand. Having already wrapped up the Dudunski T20 Final earlier in the year, Old Boys will be looking to add another trophy to their 2019/20 collection.
Like their counter parts, Star enjoyed success throughout pool play and advance from Pool 2 into the final undefeated. Sajith Dhambagolla has produced consistent batting performances throughout the season, which includes two centuries and one half century. Other players to keep an eye out for are Thomas Shuker with the ball and Elliot Santner a hero with the bat in the 2018/19 final, who has come into some form with the bat. If Dhambagolla can get his eye in, he could prove a thorn in HOB’s bowling attack.
Proven all-rounder Arnie Yugaraja leads the Star bowling attack taking 8 for the campaign. Stars combination of Dhambagolla and Yugaraja could hold the key to overcome long standing arch-rivals HOB, and defend the title of Spark One Day champions for a consecutive year.
